  • This is one of my all time favorite dance sequences ever recorded because of Nomura Mansai's dancing (how he manages to get the robes to flow gracefully without getting tangled up in it is great to see), the music, and the beautifully shot cinematography. Thanks for uploading.

  • GOSH ... I can't watch this too many times; LUV IT!

  • I love Mansai Nomura

  • He's a great actor...

  • Mansai Nomura is actually a stage actor, the style of 'theatre'he's a part of is called Kyogen, literally "mad words" or "wild speech" very similar to Noh, but with a little more humor. The two types were the origins of Kabuki. Kyogen was considered to be a little too 'lewd' or 'ribald' for the 'classical' Kabuki actors, so Kyogen was perfomed by 'lesser' actors during the intermissions of the usual Kabuki performances. Playing female roles is standard in Classical Japanese theatre.

  • wow...been looking for this title on and off for almost seven years!!! I saw it the night I left for the military at 17 on amc. never caught the title, and it has been nagging at me since. now i'm settled with a family and decided to fully commit to figuring it out...looked up different periods in japanese history, than jideigeki films, than films set in yamato period...and now here i am...i am soooo happy.

  • Ah I get it:

At the top of a mountain, on a plain small grassy plateau, sitting on a small mat over the cold, wet grass near a few small flowers, looking at the horizon and the mountains afar, w/ a warm cup of green tea, I close my eyes, and hear my heart sing....this music.

  • I love this movie.
