This was a video explanation of how to replace actors using the Utility of Time. I replaced the Dark Link from Sutaru with a respawning Iron Knuckle. Unfortunately, this video is horribly out of date.

UoT can be found here:

Now, I should probably clarify a few things. First of all, to use this program you will need an OoT ROM. Any ROM will do, but the Debug version that got leaked would be best, as it actually has filenames which make some sense. To provide a link to such a ROM would be illegal, and officially, I must insist that you use a ROM which you ripped directly from your own cartridge, as this is the only legal variety. Unofficially, google is your friend.

Next, you copy it, and put one copy in a safe place. ROMs will obviously get tampered with a lot, and you always want a clean backup. That's about the only bit of organization advice I'll give you. After that's done, use the resource extractor that should come packaged with UoT to extract the resources. You may need to byteswap it first, but I'm pretty sure that's built into the program.

That'll get you a bunch of files, but the only ones of any use in this program are zactor, zmap, and zscene files. Guess which ones are which. Debug zmaps and their zscenes should share a similar name, but I can't make any guarantees for release versions.

You can try to open them in UoT at this point. It may work, it may not. Best advice I can give you in the later case is to make sure you have .net framework 2.0 or higher, and to seek advice elsewhere. Assuming it does work, though, you can try to figure out how to use it. Hopefully the guide helps, but honestly, even I'm not sure how to get it working properly anymore. Maybe it's saving to the wrong offsets... You can input those manually, given proper management of a check-box or two in one of the menus, and the offsets can be found in one of the links below, but that might not work. Best of luck.

Once you've got your changes applied to the ROM, you can try to run it using an emulator. I use PJ64 or Nemu myself, but it doesn't much matter. Certain settings need to be changed to get the Debug ROM to work right, though. Mostly you just need to change the memory size to 8 mb I think, though if graphics are weird, try switching the graphics plug-in to Jabo's Direct3D6 1.5.2. You may have to download it off the web. Just use google. If that wasn't clear enough... Sorry.

That's about it, though the debug options will probably be in Japanese. You can use Zelda Edit to translate:

http://webpages.charter.net/cooliscool/Zelda%20Edit%200.9.5.rar

Oh, and it looks like I found a link to the resource extractor, in case you can't find it. Probably ZRE though, and gZRE is easier to use. Check the UoT download first, then try this:

http://64.vg/files/zre3/ZRE.exe

Also...

Here is the actor list:
http://www.64.vg/wiki/index.php?title=Actor_List

And another actor list:
http://www.64.vg/wiki/index.php?title=Variable_List_by_Actor

And a filename to area relation guide:
http://www.64.vg/wiki/index.php?title=Debug_ROM_Filename_to_Area_Relations

And a list of file start and end offsets:
http://www.64.vg/wiki/index.php?title=Zelda_64:_Debug_ROM_File_Listing

You've probably noticed a pattern. If you're looking for documentation, check that wiki.

Sorry everyone, but I haven't been part of the Zelda modification community for quite a while now, and I've never been the one to ask about technical problems. Please don't expect replies to your questions, as I no longer monitor them. That said, I've included a bit of new information above, so you may as well check to see if it helps. Finally, if you need more help, I suggest you find, and join, an active forum devoted to this sort of thing. I don't really have any suggestions anymore; Just check google.

  • where the hell did you get that map, i dont have shit

  • It's in the Debug ROM, though you have to extract it of course. If you can't find that ROM through google, it might help to know that the file name is ZELOOTMA.

  • You have the oooooold version of UoT

  • Had. Check the date on the video. Or the description.

  • UMMM i just got uot so how do i extract the file i have it setup but how do you extract???

  • Use ZRE on a ROM. I don't really remember exactly how that program works, but I doubt it's too complicated.
