Studies have also demonstrated that, particularly in the case of women, people who masturbate tend to have more satisfying PARTNERED sex as well... probably because they know what they like, and have the confidence to communicate it to their partner. Also, masturbation and sex are not degrees of the same thing... they are entirely different acts, both of which are good for the body and the spirit, at least in my experience and that of others I have talked to.

My parents didn't tell me anything about masturbation and, as a female, I thought there was something wrong with me - like I was some kind of sick pervert for getting aroused.
