Close to 50 percent of the population has a form of herpes. It's probably time we started owning up to it. Fortunately there are good drugs now, even over-the-counter, so it's less of a deal. I haven't had it for years. Chicken pox is worse.

This was 1983. There were less sexually transmitted diseases then (or at least less of the same ones). There wasn't as much need to interrogate your partners. I didn't get herpes until 2001. And that was from a toilet seat at a massage parlor/health spa in Carlsbad. I have only sat on one public toilet seat in my life, and that's the one I got herpes from. And it's because I was so relaxed after the massage, I thought, "What's one public toilet seat going to do?" Now I know. My mother warned me.
