After a month long review, day to day use with the Archos 80 G9 8Gb tablet running into issue after issue with this clearly defective device I finally had enough when it ended up going from a review to a rant.

Trying to find a silver lining in this device proved challenging as it just seemed to bring frustration.

It is possible that some if not most of the issues I came across were in fact results of a defective device.

Please consider this before judging against the purchase of this Archos 80 G9 8Gb tablet.

  • THANKS this review/rant i'm planning to get a tablet primarily for reading of downloaded .cbr files so is it possible for you try and do that? comica lite or ComicRack and then rar a bunch of images then change the file extension to .cbr and see if it's smooth. because i like the price and the size it seems perfect for reading comics and pdfs. thanks again! hope your online

  • @Powel3 If you wouldn't mind giving me a day or two to manage the time to test it out id be glad to get back to you on how comics view on this tablet

  • In before Charbax white knights the 80 G9.

I was thinking of getting one, simply because of the large capacity of the hard drive model and the huge video and sound support... but past experience with Archos had me leaning more towards avoiding it.

This kind of review just confirms it.

Any plans for a review in say... two months? Maybe after some other updates, it might be worth testing again to see if any of the software issues are fixed.

  • @TheDamnedOCRemix yeah of course i can do a follow up, word on the street is an icecream sandwich is in order so once it comes out and i get a feel for it i'll throw up another review

  • JohnLee, Did you call Archos about this. I bought one of the Archos G9 8GB 8" 1st gen models for my son for christmas. It had all the problems you described. Found others on the internet with the same problems, heat screen, blah blah blah and called Archos on it. Well let me tell you Archos is GREAT about responding. Not only did they pay for shipment back but they gave us the 2nd gen model and (get this) the 16GB Turbo model. All the probs you've described and my son had ...... GONE.

  • It sounds like you have a defective device, I have one and It's brilliant!

  • damn man, i have this and it works like a dream

  • I have this model, its good and bad as he says in the video, when the device gets hot it feels cheap and tacky, i do think it could be improved but at the end of the day Ipad is the way forward.

  • skeleto from nacho libre.

  • Thank you!!!!! I was about to buy this.... Now I know not 2.

  • Thanks dude, really good review. It's usually those small annoying things that pisses me off with devices.

  • Thanks for the video! I just got one of these cause Im getting into Android dev and I dont have enough money. The screen issue you are having is very odd. I dont get that on mine or any other issues. I am on the latest Firmware and the issue with this is when you turn it off,it wont come back on until you go to DFU Mode which isnt an effort at all. You should have called the support about your issues I think but I hope you got it all worked out. Good video too

  • hi John with appreciation on yr take over this 80 G9 model. I'm not clear whether yrs is that of the 250Gb but have you or can you confirm perhaps if the latest to roll out on this 8,9" tablet has all the glitches taken care of thru a firmware upgrade? I ordered it in late Oct but cancelled it in mid Jan 2012 resulting from excuses after excuses for stocking issues by Distributor. So, I'm spared on that front fortunately. However, I'm now considering the Asus with 5 processors in it!!!

  • wow why does it sound like Archos should just give up. I've considered buying Archos devices several times over the years but never have, you you have confirmed for me why I haven't. I appreciate this video.
