Yeah I am agree...but I don't think that Matt was lucky. Gnr needed a drummer with no particular tecnique or charisma for taking the rhtythm, and Matt was perfect. So Axl and Slash could do their show on stage without any risk that the drummer took the attention of the public.

He may not play with tons of technique, but he plays solid as heck, right on the beat, and has done so for longer than most posting here have been alive, so he is doing something right. Overall he has been extremely successful in the music industry, regardless of the music type he chooses to play.
Playing with chops with one thing. Arriving to gigs on time and ready to hammer the drums after a night of 12 whiskeys is another.
