kind of ironic how i'm watching this on a miserable, cold, windy fall day in Wisconsin... i can already feel winter coming.

@HeresOneForYa I'm assuming that is the alerter. It's basically a buzzer that keeps the driver's attention on the controls. If the driver does not press it quick enough, the locomotive will idle the engine, and engage the emergency brakes. I am also assuming that a emergency signal is sent to dispatch as well. It is a form of Positive Train Control.
