Actually, they aren't. Outdoor playgrounds have lower bacterial counts because of the elements (sun, UV rays, snow, rain etc). Additionally, they are regulated and required be maintained and adhere to the CPSC playground safety standards. Also, they aren't being used to generate revenue nor are they placed in an areas specifically designed for eating. Finally, they have greater visibility and parents are more likely to wash/sanitize their kids prior to eating after they play outside.
