Want to compare your climbing abilities against the likes of Greg LeMond and Bobby Julich? Try the Geiger Grade Hill climb just outside of Reno, Nevada.
Geiger Grade climbs about 2200 feet over a distance of 7.5 miles. Riders have been training and timing themselves on this climb for at least 30 years. And some of these are famous. Riders who have done this climb on a routine basis include....Greg LeMond, Bobby Julich and Tony Cruz.
According to Tony Cruz, who use to live in Reno and do this climb for training, the climb would likely be a category 3 climb in the Tour de France of the Giro.
Reportedly Greg Lemond did the climb in 28 minutes, but the course record is help by Bobby Julich at just under 30 minutes.
Listen to Spencer Ericksen, president of the Reno Wheelmen, one of the oldest cycling clubs in the US, talk about the history of the climb and then see a crop of current riders tackle the climb.
