Vickers Viscount 800 G-APIM

Onboard the Viscount 800 at Brooklands:
Built at Brooklands in 1958. She started out with BEA (British European Airways). She was later used by Cambrian Airways. She was then used by British Airways. In the early 80's, she was last used by BAF (British Air Ferries which was later named Britsih World Airlines). She was named after Stephen Piercy but sadly Stephen was killed in a flying accident. Her flying career came to a sad end in 1988 which she suffered an accident at Southend Airport. A Shorts 330 had a hydrualic malfunction which made it loose its ability to steer or brake and it hit the unmaned stationary Viscount. Both aircraft were damage beyond repair, the 330 was scrapped and Viscount was delivered by road to Brooklands in 1990. On the 26th July 2008. G-APIM celebrated her 50th Birthday as her first commercial flight was 50 years ago that day. The sound in the background is a recording of a Viscount 800 cabin.

I like the recorded flight audio. I have an audio recording of a BAC 1-11 flight from Cork to Heathrow in 1991. The 1-11 was G-AVMU now preserved at Duxford. I wonder if they would like a copy?

I flew on this in Cambrian colours a few times. I love the sound of those RR Darts, until my ears shatter! and the smell of the keroscene they leave on taxiing, Oh the memories!!! Tks for a great vid
