A feat of dual drumnastics from two of the masters of British jazz tubthumping - Ronnie 'Animal' Verrell and Kenny Clare - with Ted Heath and his Music in 1962. The soundtrack is from the 1961 Decca LP 'Big Band Percussion', the visuals are from a television spectacular made to showcase the Heath band's early Phase 4 Stereo work.

  • Does anyone know what happened to the original mono soundtrack of this show? Nice how the syncing is perfect with the stereo recording (was this a commercial LP?) to the kinescope here. Both are the same exact tempo.

  • @hepcat2009 The performance on the show was mimed to the album recording, so I had no qualms replacing it with the stereo audio. I had to varispeed it very very slightly to make it fit. Yes, it was a commercial LP - Big Band Percussion, on Decca Phase 4 Stereo.

  • I think Ronnie ended up doing drums for Animal on the Muppet show.

  • @Cheeseford good stuff dude!!

  • Very hip, and STEREOPHONIC. I really dig Kenny Clare, after becoming acquainted with him with the Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland Big Band (i.e., KCFBBB). I'm not familiar with Ronnie Verrell. The washboards and the dancers add a nice touch. I am a yankee, so I am not as up on this as some of you.

  • The 2 Bongueros are Edmundo Ros & Tony Corona, who played percussion at the Astoria Dance-Club, off Charing Cross road & Managed Drum City, on Shaftesbury Av., for a few years. I played in his band & worked in the store. I'm Keith J. Maynard: They all knew me as Snakehips, the Gypsy-Trumpeter!

  • I loved going to see Ted Heath and Band when at the Aquarium in Brighton..........fantastic music!!.

  • Reminds me of when we got our b/w tv. used to look forward to Ted Heath Band show. Any features of Frank Horrocks? I met Kenny Clare in Newry with John(ny) Dankworth. British bands were really pushing it up for the Americans.

  • @Cheeseford ... also on London Records. Thanks.
