This is a short time lapsed video of making a survival/bug out type shelter in a ditch. Also know as a ditch shelter these types of shelters can be made easily and quickly while providing plenty of camouflage. The only materials used in this shelter was a drop sheet and one piece of utility cord to create a spine down the middle of the shelter. This type of shelter could also be made using only natural materials should you not have your bug out bag.

This shelter was made during the $20 Bug Out Bag challenge.

  • Looks like a great place for water to collect

  • @Fistfullofdlrs This is just a bug out shelter good for a few day's while you are on the move. Not a permanent set up by any means.......

  • Great shelter construction. Far to many people don't size it until after they're done building and using the rope to make it more ridged just outstanding. Only drawback, is that it's a ditch for a reason and if it began raining, it'll fill up with water 9 out of 10 times. Great job none the less - you're out & testing it in the field. Anxious to see how the weekend went.

  • @hallard069 Great comment. We are only trying to learn as much as we can and getting out and doing it helps. Thanks for the comments.....

  • I was gonna mention the rain and yer shelter being in a creek but I guess everyone beat me to it LOL

  • if it rains your sol

  • I could watch survival how to's all day. lol

  • i will huff and i will puff and i will blow yur house down said the wolf

  • What about if it rains? Your in a ditch were water chooses to flow naturally?

  • If you had access to gravel, you could put that down before the "bedding" so water could flow underneath.

  • nice video and your time making it is greatly appreciated. but why would you ever build a shelter in a ditch? you kind of wanna stay alive and not get wet seems like a a bad idea to me but your i deas can be definitely used in different ways. watching is learning thank you

  • That was very good, very concealed and low profile, except for the water collecting(which you addressed) this would be perfect for a few days if needed. The only thing you had to carry in was the plastic;the rest was there already.Great video and thanks for teaching me how to do it.

  • great construction, very nice shelter

  • The ditch in the video is a upland ditch if it is connecting two wetlands together then it would be safe to use until the higher elevation wetlands starts to fill up. If this ditch gets its water from the slope of the uplands it will need to be abandoned. …….Check out my shelter video!
