This video illustrates a new biochar kiln design which we call "hornito", meaning small oven in Spanish. This kiln is a clean, efficient and inexpensive design for producing high quality biochar using recycled 55 gallon drums. The kiln is in operation in the south of Costa Rica, and was constructed by Biochar Costa Rica located in Puerto Jimenez.
Amazing, the one thing I don't fully grasp however is the integration of the rocket stove. Are the three cylinder chambers on top of a rocket stove that hits the bottom of the three chambers? If so where does the rocket exhaust pipe go and if not does the pipe go through the middle of these three? I just don't get how this is integrated. Also, is the pipe on top over a specific chamber? Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Brilliant! Thank you for sharing! Are there any drawings available? Have you developed an integrated heating system to go with the "hornito", as you mention in the video?

I would like to build this system for a 5 acre farm. I do volunteer work for an 80 year old man who could use this to grow better vegetables.
Do you have plans or drawings available online that you can send to my email address?

Poetry - I love how simple it is... and it looks inexpensive compared to the dinosaurs usually sold for producing biochar and "green charcoal".
