VICTORIA -- There are those who want change, and those who want the current Rapid Transit Plan for the Douglas Corridor revamped. The Douglas Street Businesses Association who are opposed to the current proposal, two lanes on the north side of the street, are wondering why High Occupancy Vehicle lanes weren't explored.
The group is citing the Federal-Provincial Business Case Template as a reason to scrap the current plan, which they say will severely impact their bottom line.
Saanich Mayor Frank Leonard is also onside, and says more public consultation is needed before gobs of money are spent on a transportation plan that may hinder the corridor more than it helps.
He would like to see transportation decisions pertaining to the region governed locally. As it stands right now, the Province and BC Transit are making the regional plans.
