On the eve of the anniversary of the government's apology to the Stolen Generations, a group gathered in Redfern at the shed where Gordon and Elaine Syron house their collection of 1,300 paintings from over 450 different Indigenous artists and 30 years of largely unpublished photographs of Aboriginal history, culture and political struggles.
Aboriginal people from different professions are working tirelessly to try to establish a 'Keeping Place' with this collection as a foundation. Though support for this is trickling in - it is a 'Sorry' state of affairs that Uncle Gordon and Aunty Elaine are left in there without proper support and are at risk of losing all their assets and everything they have worked for.
Rhonda Dixon-Grovenor and Josie Cashman mcs, John Morse speaking, and some of the acts - Richard Green, Joseph dancing to Adam Hill's didge, and the Jannawi Dance Group with Nadeena Dixon singing 'Aboriginal land'.
