Hello my dear students... BBC America is having a fun contest where you submit a fun story about your fur at car and they will show their favorite ones on the new season of Top Gear which is one of my favorite shows plus you can win a trip to London to go see the Top gear live experience.. Details at the end of this video.

So... The word Car, believe it or not, goes way back further than the car itself. It comes from the Latin carrum which meant a two wheel Celtic war chariot. Which in turn came from the Gaulish karros meaning cart.

So the word originally referred to a chariot and a cart.

The reason why I bring thus up, is because my first car was not much more than an old chariot or even a cart.

I grew up in Russia and Russia has some funny cars, if I may say so myself... especially my first car.

My first car was my dad's car that I used to borrow when he had had one too many beverages if you know what I mean and fell asleep on his favorite chair. It was MY car as far as I was concerned, though my father may not have agreed.

In Russia this car was considered a decent car, but it was a ridiculously stupid color that I was embarrassed to drive on my dates... lol

I was embarrassed about the color, but even the shape of it is pretty funny now that I look at it!

Anyway, one Easter after a very festive Easter dinner, my dad, again, being the Russian that he is, partook in all the festivities a bit too much and was soon asleep in his chair. So I took advantage of the situation and piled all my cousins into the car with me and drove off in search of ice cream.... "I will drive" I said... And off we went.

As we were passing the cemetery in my dad's village, a bunch of cows started crossing the street.. Now.. I have a morbid fear of cows for some reason.. I don't know why.. perhaps it was the bull that chased me when I was really little... But I freak out when I see a cow.. So of course I freaked out when theses cows started crossing the road and I ran right over a huge pot-hole in the middle of the road. Mind you, this is in a small rural town in Russia.. And by pothole... I mean something just a tad bit smaller than the Grand Canyon! And the bottom of the car came completely off of the car and we were all sitting there in the car with no wheel under it!




Well.. it took me two years to pay my dad back for that little incident because I was in college and had to give him monthly payments (from my College schlership.. or stipendia which we call it in Russian)...

The car name called a Moskvich 412 which means someone who lives in Moscow...

Pretty funny name for a car right?

Anyway... that's a story about MY first car.
