add to that, probably sex evolved from the haploid anisogamous gametes first combining to have a diploid number of chromasomes, then, becuase natural size variation would have existed in the pool of haploid gametes, selection would have been DESTABLIZING, selecting against middle of the distribuiton, leaving large immobile gametes on one end, and small mobile gametes on the other end.
