I just watched a program on the BBC iplayer (available in the uk only I'm afraid unless you can trick it into working) about Ethipia's history. The stones are the gravemarkers (stellae) of the emperors at Aksum, dating back to the first and second centuries ad. They're architectural carvings depicting the great buildings the emperors believed they would live in in the afterlife. - Quoted almost verbatim from the program.

What is that picture of at 0:55. Its an amazing piece of stonework, can you give me some more information on that? Id like to do some more research.
