While you go back to get the sniper to shoot Sniper Wolf, Meryl is being taken as a hostage meanwhile. (You can see only a bloody spot in the place Meryl was left)

Short after that Snake gets captured. Revolver Ocelot says to Snake, that if he survives the torture long enough he considers leaving Meryl alive.

If you survive the torture long enough, you get roll A, where Meryl survives.

(So, she doesn't die to the sniper gunshot)
