Lift at Queensway NCP (National Car Parks), near Notting Hill, West London.

This looks like an old otis lift, that was modernised sometime ago. The old otis floor indicator is still above the doors on the top floor, although it seems to be disconnected.
This is an underground car park, with the motor room on the roof on the ground floor (see end of vid).

As you can see in the video, if you attempt to hold open the doors as they are closing, it's like you are stretching a big spring - let the doors go and WHAM! ...they slam shut!!

This area is covered by Google Earth StreetView - just type in "24 queensway, london w2". Double click the camera images to zoom into streetview (enable it first in the options on the left). You cannot see the lift, as it is on the left after going under the building at the car park entrance.

  • Well should let them for elevator engineering man needs upgraded &re-installed with elevator. And include automantic eye held slide doors to entry and exit that will be safe. How bad elevator like pirhania plant elevator!!!!

  • The Piranha elevator! haha!

Yes, this is quite bad really.

  • So what kind of door operator on there makes the doors slam when held open? Traditional lift door operators in the USA are opened by an arm that is linked to a wheel and a motor, and newer ones use belt drives. Otis used to make a model 7777 screw drive operator, too. Does this one use one big spring or what?

  • It would seem like it!! I've never seen anything like this before, and I found this by accident! - I had my foot in the door while I started movie mode from my phone!!

  • Brilliant video. Hope you don't mind me asking, is this one lift the only form of access down to the car park or are there some stairs or a second lift somewhere else?

  • I think there is a stairwell centrally in the car park that comes up between the shops - there is no lift here though.

As with most underground NCP car parks, you can also walk down the vehicle ramp into the car park, which is how I got in.
