Emotiv Systems a neuroengineering company has done a lot of PR about thier intended release of the EPOC gaming headset. It has 14 sensors that read brainwave activity and software which requires similar training like this technology here.
No implantation needed.
Now if the headset actually works as described when and if its finally released (promised for christmas '08 then pushed back to"some time 2009") I suppose the technology described in this video might be unnecessarily invasive.

The viral danger is real and deadly, nothing to laugh at . Preachers and the religious establishment has halted our advancement for centuries , I don't think they would have trouble sending viruses to M.E. chippers .
