Very nice cut! Thanks for sharing. Is the oil even needed at the start?
Perhaps after cutting you can make the edge(s) smooth with the flat side of the carbide.

@Gta2CubanPete Yes, the oil does seem to improve the reliability of the cut. Without it, the glass tends to "squeal" and ends up breaking. As for smoothing edges, much easier to use a flame to polish them.

yo what kind of lathe do you have? could i just get an attachment or use my something on my mini lathe to hold the downstem on my pipe for a cut

@mecriticalthinks It's just held in a normal 3-jaw with some masking tape to protect the glass. If your lathe has a chuck then it should be possible to hold it.
