  • What a powerful singer. Where in Italy is Rossano and can you tell us more about this ancient musical tradition?

  • Rossano is in the province of Cosenza in Calabria. The two singers are accompanied by the guitar beating (chitarra battente) Calabrian traditional tool that he/she remembers for the tuning the bagpipe. It deals with a song of love in Calabrian dialect that exalts the beauties of the beloved woman

  • Can you explain this a little bit more: "that he/she remembers for the tuning the bagpipe"? Do you mean that the chitarra battente was used to accompany the bagpipe or to tune the bagpipe? Or that the zampogna's harmonies are based on the chords of the chitarra battente?

  • The sound of the beating guitar remembers a lot that some bagpipe. The harmonic ones of the beating guitar remember that some bagpipe. The ropes of the beating guitar are all thin ones of the same diameter. The beating guitar from the rope central Sol dictates "bourdon" as the bagpipe. The beating guitar can often be granted also as the bagpipe: the last ropes are played that perform the melody. The beating guitar

  • buonasera a "tutto"???????

  • Thank you for this wonderful description. I have seen the chitarra battente played live only once, by Owain Phyfe and the New World Renaissance Band, several years ago at a folk festival in my town. It was described as a wire-strung instrument used in Florence and maybe also other parts of Italy since the 1400s, for outdoor festivals. So even though the guitar originally came from Spain it has a very long history in Italy, I suppose.

  • Bellissima canzone! Siete bravissimi !!!
