These are pictures I took of the thoroughbred horse races at Montpelier Station in Virginia. It is an annual event which features insanely photogenic racehorses and colorfully attired jockeys putting them through their paces in seven races. Unfortunately, I got there late and could only photograph races 5, 6, and 7 (but there's always next year!). I was only happy with the pictures I took before and during Races 6 and 7 (Race 5, I didn't anticipate the horses would be jumping over the more distant railings instead of the closer in hedgerow). Race 6 involved the horses bursting through the hedgerow and Race 7 did not involved jumping (but the horses ran extremely close to the rails which was great for me).
I used my brand new Canon EOS 7D to take these pictures with a Canon L-Series 24-105mm short zoom. I was impressed to put it mildly with the eight frames per second burst rate of the camera. I touched up the pictures using Adobe Lightroom 2.3 and Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0. Inside PSE7, I used Topaz Adjust to enhance some of the shots.
