Harry Chapin recorded Cats in the Cradle in 1974 and rocketed up the charts. This is my cover of it that I recorded in July 2009 after picking my guitar back up after 19 years of not playing. When I was 13, I went to a teacher to learn to play this song, because it was one of my Dads favorites. We had a 45 rpm record that I practically wore out while trying to learn it the correct way. My dad said he liked the version I played, I guess that's what fathers do. So I never learned it the correct way. Dad travelled a lot during the years when I needed him most, but he had to in order to provide for his family. I understand that now. When Dad died, we hadnt talked to one another for about two weeks. I wish we had been on better terms with each other. I hope I have lived my life in a way that he would be proudI can only hope. Every time I play this song, I think of him, maybe that's why he wanted me to learn it.

I recorded 4 tracks using a Tascam DP-004 multi-track recorder. One acoustic guitar -track - finger picking, another acoustic guitar track - strumming, a vocal track, and a hand percussion - egg shaker track. My Fender acoustic is played through an Acoustic brand AG30 30w amp made specifically for acoustic guitars. I am completely satisfied with this amp, and would highly recommend one. Im also getting better at matching the video up with the final audio mix, but its not perfect. Thanks for watching.

  • this is a great cover! you've got your own sound intertwined that's pretty cool. I love the sound of the amp too

  • @anotherguitargod - Thanks. I now run my acoustic thru a Boss AD-3 before going to the amp, and it sounds amazing.

  • How loud does the Acoustic AG30 get? I am thinking of getting one tmrw!

  • @markerf16 The ag30 will handle small to medium venues. When I play with a band I run the line out to the PA, and have had no problems. It's a great acoustic amp.

  • Such a sad song, but good nonetheless. Nicely sung, played and recorded!

  • @finlarg - Thank You

  • @Nuninhoization - I love comments from fellow musicians, but when I went to your channel, you have no videos and a string of negative comments on everyones videos. Thanks for your great insight.

  • @KyLesCaster That's called "his own version"

  • vocals are completely off key because the chords are wrong man. you never guess a chord progression.

im being open, no criticisim, just a fellow guitarist.

  • I didn't know Jeff Bridges could play guitar so good! just kidding, great cover though with the twist on the vocals

  • @ariemor - Thank You
