Met a really old guy once who told me he was on that beach. The guy to his left shot down. The guy to the right shot down. He ran and made it. Fought another yr into France/Germany. He was up to go home. He stayed and painted as an artist for yrs in France. Moved to Chicago in the 60`s.-was the 90`s when he told me. He was still an artist. Told the beach story and war story without any emotion..like he was telling you he was gardening. Those are the heros. Tough, strong and sensitive.
