DESCRIPTION of The Maiden and the Nightingale:
Under shadow of night, the noble Rosario waits in her courtyard for her rebellious lover, Fernando. She is rapt with the dark allure and mystery of the nightingale's song, just as her passion for Fernando threatens to consume her.

Her final words to the nightingale:
"No hay cantar sin amor. Ah, Ruisenor, es tu cantar himno de amor." (There is no singing without love. O Nightingale, your song is love's hymn).

Performed by soprano Candice Hoyes as Rosario and Julius Abrahams, piano, for 2010 JudsonArts Series in New York City.

Paintings and sketch by Francisco Jose de Goya y Lucientes; final painting by Diego Rivera.
