This was another one of those scenes that was meant to be historically accurate, because out of the few who were later saved in the ocean full of the deceased, a Chinese man rescued by Officer Lowe. So a little historical tidbit xD not just a random scene. I mean, Rose wasn't the ONLY survivor they found in the water.
