Tribute to the American, British and Russian soldiers, and the resistance fighters throughout Nazi-occupied Europe, who struggled, sacrificed and died to free humanity from fascism.
P.S. i supose that @strongman325 wasn`t talking about the underground, but about the regular army on exile. One more thing, Armia Krajowa was not just a group of acidental people, every member was sworn as a soldier and as a such followed the orders of higher officers, responsible before the headquater (in London). There were also some groups of Polish underground in France, Belgium and even in Germany. A one man, Kazimierz Leski, was under a cover of a... German general.
@TheTollundWoman No, there was no puppet goverment, however i`m sure Germans could make a one... but didn`t wanted. The idea was not to keep some sort of Polish state, or the people for a long time. Underground was not just military, it provided everything Germans banned, including shools, books, theatres etc. Germans banned even sports and... the music of Chopin.
Underground couldn`t even fight, for each killed German there were executed exactly 100 accidental people.
Excuse me, but there was no such as "free Polish", this prefix "free" was made by these French that joined De Gaulle to distinguish them from the Vichy French.
There was just Polish gov, President and Polish army, mind that we never signed capitulation and the authorities evacuated to Romania.
I know, the Polish underground's acheivments were far more substantial, both in the number of nazi casualties they inflicted, and in their high level of organization. In France, collaboration with the enemy was extremely common and widespread, in Poland it was exceedingly rare and was viewed as shameful. There was no Polish equivalent of the Vichy traitors, so the Polish resistance was able to count on the whole population for support.
W fascism ... W axis between Rome and Berlin ... and the war were to win the countries making up the axis. Europe belong to us right ... W Italians Fascists, German Nazis and Japanese together forever
