Take a tour of Meteora Monasteries in Greece -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions series by GeoBeats.

Hi, I'm Naomi and I'm very excited to show you the world's greatest attractions.

Their name in Greek means "suspended in air" and is an accurate moniker for these monasteries.

The Meteora Monasteries are an exceptional complex of eastern Orthodox monastic dwellings.

There are six structures, all built on sheer rocky cliffs in Central Greece.

Hermits and monks have lived in the monasteries for more than a thousand years, distanced from the world.

It's easy to see how the monks may have felt God's presence in this place.

Previously accessible only by ropes and baskets, there are now steps available for visitors.

With good timing, it's possible to see all of the Meteora Monasteries in one day.

Thank you for watching our travel video series. See you next time.
