Because the beloved has a newly developed sense of value, it is diametrically attached to to the presence of the lover, and thus is worthless without the lover. therein lies the the true power of the lover. to love is the single greatest quality humanity has.

Love is the impulse to be selfless without acknowledgement, and further without reciprocation. That a person loves another does not make them a fool, it would make them vulnerable, both to physical assault and to emotional. But does not effect a state of weakness in a person. Quite the contrary it empowers a person. Despite a beloved's aversion to a lover, the power remains with the lover, as a result of the worth that the beloved develops.

"The demand to be loved is the greatest of all arrogant presumptions"

I believe that is what Rey was speaking to. It is important to understand that this word, has been perverted by the vocabulary with which we have to define it. To use the shackles of the english language to attempt to broach the true significance of "love" does the spirit of the word no justice. But because we speak english, i will make this attempt.
