Granny's 'pot' luck
Weed-smoking Bronx cancer survivor goes free
BY CHRISENA COLEMAN

The ganja granny is free.
All charges against Barbara Jackson, a 71-year-old great-grandmother busted for buying two dime bags of pot, were dropped yesterday on a technicality.
"Thank you, God," Jackson exclaimed outside Bronx Criminal Court, raising her hands to the sky.
The Daily News broke the story yesterday of how the colorectal cancer survivor relied on the marijuana to help her appetite.
"To stay alive," she said yesterday.
On March 13, Jackson said she "went to see the sidewalk chemist" to find more of the illegal drug she has grown to depend on.
Plainclothes cops suddenly descended on her and found the marijuana on her. She was handcuffed and spent five hours in custody.
Jackson went to court yesterday - along with her attorneys, Ron Kuby and David Pressman - expecting the worst.
But then came word that the Bronx district attorney's office was declining to continue with the case because some of the paperwork in the case was incomplete.
Jackson said she's glad it's all behind her.
"I smoke marijuana to stay alive," she said. "It gave me back my appetite and helped me regain my weight. Without it, I would have gotten weaker and weaker and died."
Jackson didn't say whether she'll continue to light up - but random supporters who recognized her from her picture in The News encouraged her to toke away.
"She should be able to smoke her weed in peace," said Alfredo Santos, 49, of the Bronx. "It's helping with the cancer."
Another man yelled, "Johnson needs his a-- whipped if he prosecutes granny," referring to Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson.
Kuby said Jackson spent 71 years as a good citizen, so "I guess the city said this bud's on us."
