Every Labor Day the Mackinac Bridge, which links the Upper and Lower Peninsulas of Michigan, opens up to pedestrians in the morning. People are given an opportunity to walk the 5-mile span from St Ignace, MI in the north to Mackinaw City, MI in the south. The walk has occurred every years since the bridge opened in 1957. We had to arrive at 6:00 am in order to get a good spot in line when the bridge walk started at 7:00 am.
