How about this then, how many recent songs and bands have you completely ignored and not paid any attention to because you were instead still listening to this song? Not saying it is bad, however, the new generations have 24 years of music newer than this song, 24 years of bands that may or may not have music that they can relate too. That is a long time. I know all the people you speak of, yet I have heard them once or twice because I focus on new bands such as purity ring. Thats what age means

Did I ever say that I do not like this version? Lol. No. All I am saying is that it is sad that individuals do not understand the origins of these "New songs they hear on the radio or on television. I am with x4str0m3ch The cure did do it best. The bad was so raw and way ahead of their time. Adele did give it a new spin and did such an amazing job. I will agree with you on that one. She made it current, but we are so lucky that artists like her and Adam Levine know good music!

I still think it is sad. The reason being exactly what you said. It doesn't seem as though anyone understands the history and the origins in which some of their favorite songs are from. Is it great that shows like this reintroduce these songs...of course, but I am 30 and know music such as Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and other amazing artists. Saying that 1989 is farther and farther away is just silly. It doesn't matter how "old" music is. That is all I was saying.

Not really, I am 21 an this song is from before I was born. True I know it, but the voice reminded me of it so much that I had to hear it again. However, 1989 is getting farther and farther away, its like saying if you have never heard every single Sinatra song, you are sad.

Your opinion is your own, but the fact is this: The Cure did it first, and The Cure did it best.

I don't think they should be SAD, better late than never. Adele brought me here and I'm sure some ppl think it's SAD it took her cover for more ppl to know the song too... Because 75% of ppl who know the song now, know it because of Adele. I think its SAD when ppl don't give older music like this a chance, because its what their favorite singers and groups drew their inspiration and style from.

PS>>>> This song is great.... but Adele gave it a whole new life and put it in a whole new light
