Sad? why would it be sad that raccoons are animals that are able to outsmart many humans. I have enjoyed their presence in my home as welcome and delightful house guests, People do need to be smarter than raccoons to keep them out of their homes, cars, and garbage. If it were not more important for them to be able to live their real raccoon lives, I would consider it an honour to have one as a permanent guest. Given a chance, they are cleaner than a lot of people, and a nicer, too.
