This is about setting up a free Backup Server for your Mac. You don't need to use the Terminal to make Time Machine showing your Backup Volume. Note: This is an alpha-build. Don't use it for main Backup as long as there is no final release.

Thanks for the video. It worked great. The only step I would add is that you have to make sure to mount the disk/directory first in finder. Otherwise, Time Machine doesn't see the disk.
This was just what I needed to get setup though.

@purple375 in theory, yes.
but it would be more work.
you'd need to share the backup location using AFP (as also seen in the video)
but to make it show up, you'd have to open the terminal and type (and run) this:
defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1
(on one line) then it should show the network volume.

after i put in my username and password it says that time machine cant access the backup drive any help?

this function needs a lot of adjustments on the server side. But if you use the defaults write command on your mac you can use any server (even smb).
