Jesse James was a lad
That killed many a man
He robbed the Glendale train
He stole from the rich
And he gave to the poor
He'd a hand and a heart and a brain.
Well it was Robert Ford
That dirty little coward
I wonder now how he feels
For he ate of Jesses bread
And he slept in Jesses bed
And he laid poor Jesse in his grave
Well Jesse had a wife
To mourn for his life
Three children
Now they were brave
Well that dirty little coward
That shot Mr. Howard
He laid poor Jesse in his grave
Jesse was a man
A friend to the poor
He'd never rob a mother or a child
There never was a man with

the law in his hand
That could take Jesse James when alive
It was on a Saturday night
Well the moon was shining bright
They robbed the Glendale train
And people they did say
oer many miles away
It was those outlaws Frank and Jesse James
Well Jesse had a wife
To mourn for his life
Three children
Now they were brave
But that dirty little coward
That shot Mr. Howard
He laid poor Jesse in his grave
Now the people held their breath
When they heard of Jesse's death,
They wondered how hed ever come to fall
Robert Ford it was a fact
He shot Jesse in the back
While Jesse hung a picture on the wall
Jesse went to rest with his head on his breast
The devil will be upon his knee
He was born one day in the county Clay
And he came from a solitary race
Well Jesse had a wife
To mourn for his life
Three children
Now they were brave
Well that dirty little coward
That shot Mr. Howard
He laid poor Jesse in his grave

  • @xxxxgame The Assassination Of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

  • uhhh! oh really no shit dammer buddy hes good people i god dam guarantie ya uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

  • @altooname YES Bruce's accents on songs vary, but he's just trying to BE a character that would sing THAT song. Sometimes it seems like he's trying to be funny, but sometimes, it's just a simpleton, uneducated dolt, working class, or even female(or combo, like Catherine Le Fevre in 'Car Wash").

The man is simply remarkable and has no rival. He succeeds in being completely authentic, even when he's singing with a fake accent about something that he's never experienced!

  • Love the editing job, perfect switching between movie scenes and concert footage.

  • I think in true story telling style, Bruce is trying to pay tribute to a western icon with a western voice or voice a western tribute. In any case, it is a true story and I love what Bruce has done with it. It serves as a fair warning to those who keep themselves ahead of the law to pray for God to protect them from the dirty little cowards of the world.

  • wat film is that?

  • hi altooname, thanks for the explanation. Obviously I was wrong...I like too his way of singin and as harmonica palyer I agree with you: no comparison with Dyland. Can I take advantage of your comments again, this time abut Dylan? What kind of accent does he have?

  • @upsaroka1 Springsteen's from New Jersey and in his early recordings he has the usual New Jersey + kind of New York accent. Search YT for his early Dancing in the Dark video. He gradually began to sound like some mixture of southern U.S. and what I guess he thought was cowboy, and on this song what you hear is his idea of - I don't know - American folk singing accent? A bit strange but he's a great artist nonetheless.

  • I'M ITALIAN SO I DON'T UNDESTAND ACCENTS WERY WELL BU IT SEEMS TO ME THA BRUCE SINGS THIS SONG WITH A KING OF IRISH ACCENT INSTEAD OF HIS AMERICAN ONE. ISN'T IT?

  • I like springsteen, but since he started this folk thing, he has been trying more and more to change his voice tone. He plays the harmonica like dylan, which is to say he can't. I wish Bruce would just sing. He does that very well. Tom Petty is doing the same stupid thing and even the great Gordon Lightfoot is trying to sound like he used to, instead of just writing the great songs he wrote. Listen to the Kingston trio to see how it should be done.
