A bad ground can be tough to track down. This video shows you how to run a separate ground cable to figure out where your ground issue might be.

  • How can we fix a bad ground? Do we have to remove the current ground wire from lights and replace it with new wire?

  • If a wire is bad, it should be replaced.

It should be noted that wires are rarely bad. Far and away, the biggest area of trouble is the ends of the wires and the connections.

A bad end can be replaced. A bad connection can be cleaned.

Wires tend to be problem-free unless they are pinched, crushed, or melted from an overload.

  • Thank you so much for the details. And I must say that your videos are great!! Keep it up.

One more question, why is it the ground that we are only concern about? what about the positive wire?

  • A circuit has 5 components.

    1 Source of power.

    2 Path for the electricity

    3 Control The switch

4 Consumer Part that uses the electricity.

5 Return "Ground." completes the circuit. No ground = No circuit.

The first 4 items get all the attention. Battery charged? Power to switch? Power to consumer?

The Ground is often taken for granted. The Ground is not our only concern. We are concerned with the whole circuit. However, most people have checked the power side and rarely look at the Return.

  • That's exactly what has my explorer the same color for both headlights so where I am going to start to check headlights? Thanks

  • This video looks like my 4 headlight system on low-beam...there shouldn't be any electricity going to the hi-beams at all on this setting but there is. How do I possibly correct this bleeding of the low beam circuit into the hi-beams???

  • i have 2 dim lowbeams--when i do this test the one im doing it on light up nice----but then the other light goes out completely ----any ideas??????

  • He sounds like BoB Ross, it's the Bob Ross of the automotive world. "A bad ground can be a beautiful thing, just let it happen and go with, what a wonderfull sight"

  • @munoz4415 he's got a bad ground

  • thanks for the tip

  • This is a good video but it would have been so much more helpful if you had actually SHOWED us where you were connecting the jumper to the lighting ground. Many of your viewers may already know most of this stuff, but a lot of us don't and seeing everything that you're doing is extremely helpful. Thanks anyway.

  • This car has a bad ground
