According to the Western Center on Law & Poverty, "both Whitman and her primary challenger Steve Poisner targeted CalWORKs during the recently concluded campaign. Whitman's radio ads have repeatedly stressed that California's welfare program is too large when compared with other states like New York. But the difference in payments by each state's taxpayers suggest something entirely different. California is able to help five times as many poor families as New York at a lower cost per taxpayer than New York. Five Times!
The truth is that the CalWORKs program is one of the most effective and efficient programs operated by the state of California. Sixteen years ago California spent $3.7 billion a year on the old AFDC program but today, even in the midst of a deep recession, the state spends just $2.1 billion on CalWORKs. Even less now due to budget reductions to welfare to work activities. CalWORKs is not causing the budget crisis and in fact should be a model of government at its best."

If I knew there was any doubt I couldn't feed my children now or in the future I wouldn't get pregnant. where are the single mother's sperm donors? They are financially responsible for the child until it turns 18! Again it boils down to personal responsibility. You shouldn't expect the government to raise your children or in this case the taxpayers!

Why is it always the government and the state's responsibility to eradicate poverty? My parents taught me to be personally responsible for my own life. I'm not poor. as a matter of fact I do very well. I guess the poor in America were never taught personal responsibility! I came from a lower middle class family that was not wealthy by any means, We never received food stamps or welfare.

yea its going to hurt mothers who are not married to find day care for them when they have to work. staying with the man while he goes to work and the mom stayed home and thats the only way thats going to work. I hope marriage can last longer for this to happen.leaving the state of California and moving to another state. the man can be loser. all men can be a loser. more women are going to feel that child in there arms with pain.parents would be the other alternative.living with parents

another big blow to California Medical was Dental no longer being covered.Handy cap people would be forced to pay for there dental such as cavity's.Root canals to get a new cap put on.and it would cost 900 dollars for a new cap. I know some clinics would take payment options.and I could pay a certain amount per month

SSI people get an extra 200 dollars in California and she will eliminate that the last of the ssp witch is combined with your SSI check. but in other states they get food stamps. so if she cut the 200 in ssp people will have to get food stamps.I do not know if food stamps are state or federal. federal would be better. because Federal can print the money. state cant. SSI people get a check from social security .Supplemental security income. for the people who handicap and would see cuts in IHSS

I found the list of programs Meg Whitman wants to cut. she wants to change welfare from 5 years to 2 years.because she sees New York welfare is 2 years. she wants to cut 7 billions from Schools. she will save lot of money. if the laws would become law but with the law makers would have to vote and if they don't come up with a vote the state budget.then no body will get payed till they pass the budget. of course Meg Whitman could Veto the it. and may take longer. she spending big on here campaign

She does not plan on eliminating poverty. That would mean that her megabillionaire lifestyle would be in jeopardy. ON the contrary, she wants to eliminate crucial jobs. This way the mega rich will be able to hold on to their own millions. She will cut you child's education so that other millionaires like herself will keep getting richer.
