I agree that people should look up to God & Christ, and that men will fail at times. But don't forget, Jesus was also a man. He sinned when he dealt with the merchants in the Synagogue, had his moment of doubt on the Cross. He washed his disciples feet to humble himself. He never once called HIMSELF the Son of God. But through it all he did the best he could as a person with the same weakness as us. He was the greatest man who ever lived -but still certainly a man.

I think a lot of that has to do with age. I was young and it always felt awkward to me saluting someone, especially Officers younger than myself at the time. And acknowledging authority is anathema to young people. :)
