This is a video of a maracatu practice in Sao Paulo. Maracatu is a type of music, dance, and song, that was brought to Brazil with the African's that were enslaved here. The practice is carried on by people of all ages, who come together to sing and dance in celebration of the rich traditions of the culture, and to honor those that came before. This group is near the Sumare metro station, if you go there anyone can point you in the right direction. Everyone is very warm and welcoming, and visitors are even allowed to play the drums, sing, and dance... I wouldnt try the shakers unless you have had some practice... This video really does not do justice to the amazing sound of the drums. They roar through every ounce of your being, and can be heard all around the area.
