Well here's what I think about Dexter being socially inadequate. He goes after killers and knows what to say to not cast suspicion, to blend in, in a sense that nothing that he does is out of the ordinary. He knows how to deal with killers mainly. But when it comes to being with people where everything comes from the heart, where their interactions are spontaneous, he feels out of place. He knows what faces to make and how to talk, but not really how to "be one of them."

Re quinn and the car: Quinn is Deb's partner. He didn't want the case, but she overruled him - hence he was the driver and went along.

You're totally wrong about the contrast between Dexter's blending into society in season 1 and season 4. It was a lot easier to smile at strangers and to pretend to be someone he's not for a minute or two. Maybe even a day with his wife, then gf. But he's a man who is emotionally void. He has no feelings aside from the satisfaction of killing. So obviously it's harder for him to maintain his act 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with people around him all the time and no place of solitude.

yeah remember last episode when he got very emotional with his belt wrapped around trinity's neck? yes, Dex IS supposed to be emotionally void, as the writers laid out those ground rules from the first ever episode. but they've consistently proven that's not true. that being said, i do wish i didn't point that part out the way i did in this review. i could have put together a more compelling point than what i did here, it wasn't a contradiciton so much in the way i presented it. thx
