Hozoin Ryu Sojutsu at Atsuta Jingu 2006 45th Embutaikai

This year the Hozoin Ryu came out from Nara and demonstrated their spearmanship at the Atsuta Jingu 45th Annual Embutaikai. Shown are the Su yari and the kama yari.

Back in the days the cross shaped spear must have been a pain when all you had was a katana. Even if someone gets past the tip into range for an attack, just pulling the spear towards yourself could slash up the attackers shoulder or arm...

These could be effective weapons out in the rice pattie, in the country when defending your home, etc.. they really give you long reach and let you attack from afar.
