I cay say that naill ferguson didn't understand the economics. He's historian not economist. And his achievement is nil for this issue..sorry...
-
@rollokb2 ...and his ability to understand higher-level economic theory no doubt.
-
He's a Economic historian, he knows his stuff. The only big difference is his knowledge of econometrics.
-
Ferguson won the debate, even if he was completely wrong throughout it.

good debate, we need more

Man, i like jeffrey sachs but he is a member of sachs banking family. Feels a bit strange when he is talking bad about his relatives.

debate. That said, i think that Jeff Sachs has certainly made far greater points of merit than Niall has in this discussion. He is however currently promoting a book and i dont recall either of these men screaming from the rafters about the impending doom pre- crash.

I agree with previous comments, Regardless of your opinion on who of these two have the most accurate take on what course of action is best for american economy its clear we need to have a much longer and more well publicie

Niall Ferguson isn't even an economist, he doesn't have a clue.

the deliberate dumbing down continues because that is what they pay for ...
Definte victory by Jeffrey Sachs. He puts up solid arguments to a major and obvious problem that rich pay far less in taxes than others. But Ferguson just tries to kick it off by arguments like - state cann't make a good investment in education, etc.
And Fergusson got nothing else to offer - obvoisly he wants to stick to current situation. Whoc can say that US is Ok in economics and social policies? may be top 5% earners are happy with that. No surpise that N.F. consult Republicans on economy.

Niall Ferguson 1 - Jeff Sachs 0
At first, Jeff Sachs acts like a little kid who plugs his ears with his fingers and continues to talk instead of allowing Ferguson to finish his opening statement.
It's tough to appreciate someone's point of view when they lose their composure..
