I think she did. The company did a marketing split, younger audiences are targeted with the princess/fairy/mermaid Barbie Girl line (including this one with the generic groom). Older girls are targeted with the MyScene and Model barbies, which frees up Barbie from Ken. I think it was a response to the Bratz dolls cornering their market with a more 'grown-up' doll and Mattel needed to do something quickly.
