National D.O.M.A. Protest March Rally & Signature Drive on an Open Letter to Barack Obama, reminding him of his promise to REPEAL DOMA!

Rally and March Kick-off at the
San Diego City & County Administration Building
1600 Pacific Highway, San Diego, California
Where, once upon-a-time, from June 17th, 2008 to November's bittersweet election day, marriage licenses were issued to same-sex couples.

January 10, 2009 -- March Against DOMA -- gather at County Administration Building at 10am for a pre-rally, then step-off for marching at 11am. We'll be marching a 2 mile route past the Manchester Grand Hyatt, which the local hotel union and the LGBT community are currently boycotting. Then we'll continue up 1st Avenue and back down Ash Street to County Adminsitration. There will be a second rally after the march, with more great speakers!
This event is one that comes in many forms with rallies in almost every major city mixed with signature drives throughout the nation.

From Wikipedia:
Rights and responsibilities of marriages in the United States

According to the United States Government Accountability Office (GAO), there are 1,138 statuatory provisions in which marital status is a factor in determining benefits, rights, and privileges. It should be noted that these rights and responsibilities apply only to male-female married couples, as the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) defines marriage as between a man and a woman and thus bars same-sex couples from receiving any federal recognition of same sex marriage or conveyance of marriage benefits to same sex couples through federal marriage law.

Prior to the enactment of DOMA, the General Accounting Office (as the GAO was then called) identified 1,049 federal statutory provisions in which benefits, rights, and privileges are contingent on marital status or in which marital status is a factor. An update was published in 2004 by the GAO covering the period between September 21, 1996 (when DOMA was signed into law) and December 31, 2003. The update identified 120 new statutory provisions involving marital status, and 31 statutory provisions involving marital status repealed or amended in such a way as to eliminate marital status as a factor.

  • Wasn't it clinton that supported or signed doma into effect? Now Obama seems pretty slow to get on the ball with his pledges to the gay community. No offense, I think the democrats play the gay community like a fiddle.

  • Great video, we were tramping around in the snow here, glad you had good weather!

  • Keep fighting!

  • Still rock on :O)
