James Hird horrific facial injury - Round 6 2002

James Hird suffers a horrific facial injury after colliding with Mark Mcveigh's knee against Fremantle at Subiaco. He broke many bones in his face and was in hospital for a week.

Also similar to the recent injury to Jonathan Brown in round 1 of 2011.

Holy crap. I suffered the SAME injury about 15 months ago playing footy against Nambour on the Sunshine Coast. I copped a knee in my face just like that. It was probably the worst thing I have ever had to go through. I still suffer from weird panic attacks even now when driving or going for a surf. I still don't feel the same bloke as I did before I got wacked. Good on you Hirdy for achieveing the role as Coach for the Dons. It so gives me hope that I can achieve great things one day as well...

So, spandex tights are chuck norris manly compared to blokes in what are effectively running shorts (seeing as AFL players actually run for extended periods of time rather than sit around for the majority of the game a la the NFL). And being so petrified of actual physical injury to the point of being encased in armour is waaaaayyyy tougher than nail hard fuckers running into brutal physical contact with, at most, a mouthguard. @cornelious, doesn't that say NFL is even sisser than ballet. Why would NFL players need a helmet and pads if they're (apparently) physically stronger anyway - they should be prepared to take any hit as they are. And if the small shorts are seen as gay then wwe and athletics must also be.
