WWII Veteran, POW, and current Medford resident Frederick Solberg tells the tale of his last bombing run, and subsequent two captures in Italy.

Studs Terkel's THE GOOD WAR: A Musical Collage of WWII runs September 10 - October 4, 2009 at Stoneham Theatre. Don't miss this Pulitzer Prize-winning collection of oral histories, combined with popular songs and dancing from the era.

  • Bronze star with valor, Distinguished flying Cross, Air Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and the POW Medal. WOW a true American hero.

  • My dad passed away earlier this month. It makes watching this video all that more poignant.

  • Sgt Solberg, thank you for your service! Glad you made it back. Thank you for telling your story. Please encourage other vets to tell their stories, and get their experience on the record. I.

  • Thank you for sharing this story. My Grandfather was also a POW in the war.

  • It is an amazing tale from a wonderful man. Shana tovah Solbergs!

  • grampy!

  • This is my dad, and he still tells his story with grace. Believe it or not, this is the short version. He didn't talk about his war experiences for forty years. One day, I was visiting and flipping through the TV stations and began watching the movie Stalag 17. He said quietly, "You know, I was in Stalag 17." Slowly, the story came out, and we were all amazed. It really was a remarkable generation.
