I have made a screen applicator (window screen attached to a Imrie Shim) and use a show polishing brush to sweep the sugar through the screen. The application is made BELOW any supers but above brood area. I do not break apart the brood area but apply above the entire brood area.

  • NO other treatment as of yet. My goal is to use survivor stock and breeding cycles (splits) to deal with mites.

    We'll see how that works.

Varroa mites are a pest that attach themselves to the bees.

By coating the bees with powdered sugar, it causes varroa mites to lose their grip and fall off.

  • What does the powder sugar do?

  • That looks like a good way to distribute the powdered sugar while sifting it at the same time. Good job BEEK.

  • Sweet!

  • I am going to build a screen today. Great idea & looks like an old shoe brush or scrub brush will work. Do you ever use any other medicine at the same time? (Terramycin?)

  • nice !!
