Don't mind the ultra small screen resolution. Winglancer was a game originally designed for the MSX (oh, boy, I had this when I was a kid, it was my first computer) and finally ported to Windows. It's a freeware game.
Mechanics are definitely old school for the simple fact that the game IS old, it's not retro or any crap. You collect those falling stars, try to stay alive and beat the game. Just look at the video, that's how it really looks on full screen at 640x480. The real deal is 250x190 or something like that, try checking this on a TV.
You can play stretched in windowed mode though. Doesn't look that pretty but it does the job.
Oh, the music is pure unadulterated awesome. ABFUKU did a piano version of Winglancer's theme and it only showed how awesome it is.
If you like freebies and to scavenge for old shooters this is for you. You can get it via the official website or Vector.co.jp.
